President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih appointed Shimaz Ali as the Deputy Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation on Sunday.
Shimaz is a representative of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s Maldives Reform Movement, which is a part of the ruling coalition.
The newly appointed deputy minister had previously served as the former media officer of the Football Association of Maldives and Maldives Olympics Committee.
Shimaz is currently the editor of ‘maldivesfootball.com’ as well.
Furthermore, he previously served as the programme manager at the Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Resources.
The transport ministry currently has two serving deputy ministers and two state ministers.
Deputy Ministers are paid a total of MVR 35,500, out of which MVR 20,500 is basic salary while the remaining MVR 15,000 is given as allowance.
President Solih has appointed 62 Deputy Ministers since being elected into office in November 2018.
