President Solih hails SBI's role in Maldives' banking sector

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih declared that the State Bank of India (SBI) played an important role in supporting the finances of individuals and businesses of the Maldives.

He made the remark at the Forty-fifth anniversary function of SBI held in Kurumba Maldives Resort

President Solih congratulated the management, staff and shareholders of SBI on the celebration of its forty-fifth year operating in Maldives.

He highlighted that SBI established its first branch when banking services were nonexistent in the country, and was the only bank operating when tourism was introduced in the Maldives.

President Solih also emphasised that SBIs’ role in aiding numerous Maldivian businesses and managing finances for individuals and businesses alike. He thanked SBI for empowering local communities to have greater say in how they are governed and to tackle development challenges at the community level.

Additionally, President Solih expressed appreciation of SBI's contribution to the advancement of the Maldivian banking and finance sector, and the country in general.

Concluding the address, the President noted that SBI's presence in Maldives was a sign of healthy diplomatic relations between Maldives and India.

SBI awarded a special commemorative plaque to President Solih during the ceremony.
