President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih expressed on Monday that his administration has established an avenue conducive for foreign investment.

While speaking with members of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) at the Hilton Hotel in Colombo, Sri Lanka, President Solih requested Sri Lankan and other foreign bodies to invest in Maldives.

President Solih noted that the main engine of economic development is the private sector and that methods to ease businesses would contribute to advancements in economic profits.

The President further highlighted similarities in the tourism sector between the two countries, and stated that both nations would have to face the challenges caused by climate change.

In his speech, President Solih identified sectors that both countries could jointly develop, and collaborate together to progress towards incorporating renewable energy.

"...explore as many avenues as we can to expand and strengthen business partnerships…so that we can truly realize the ideal of a free flow of goods, people and commerce within the region”, said the President.

In addition, President Solih extended his guarantee to Lankan businesses that the current administration will work towards advancing the economy and increasing business in a way that would profit both countries.

During the meeting, the President of Sri Lanka Business Council presented President Solih with a plaque of appreciation to mark the support in strengthening trade relations between the two countries.

Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail also spoke at the event, while a prominent delegate of Maldivian businesses met with Sri Lankan businessmen.
