Maldives Third-Way Democrats opens applications for parliamentary elections

Maldives Third-Way Democrats (MTD) opened applications on February 1, for electoral tickets to contest in the upcoming Parliamentary Elections.

The party, headed by convicted former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb, has allocated a week as the timeframe for candidates to apply for the MTD parliamentary tickets. MTD will close the its application process on February 9.

MTD has not yet announced which constituencies its candidates would run for.

The governing coalition's largest member, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), had announced its intention to run for 86 constituencies, while Jumhooree Party (JP) has decided to contest in 36 constituencies.

Opposition coalition parties, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People’s National Congress (PNC), will be contesting for 62 constituencies.

Several individuals have also announced their intention to contest as independent candidates.
