The Civil Court on Sunday ordered opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) to pay MVR 3.8 million to the Maldives' national carrier Maldivian.

Maldivian, run by Island Aviation Services (IAS), had appealed at court for MVR 3.8 million which PPM had failed to pay during the campaign for the Presidential Election in September 2018.

Furthermore, PPM attested in court that the party did owe money to Maldivian.

Civil Court ordered PPM to settle the payment with Maldivian within 15 days.

When the issue initially surfaced, PPM had owed MVR 4.8 million. However, once the case was filed at court, PPM had settled MVR 1 million out of the total sum.

According to PPM, the party had failed to pay the due amounts since the Elections Commission had withheld a large portion of party funds from them, due to a case at the Supreme Court regarding PPM's most recent congress. However, once the case was resolved, the EC requested Ministry of Finance to issue the funds.
