Five water villas at luxury hotel destination Taj Exotica Resort and Spa were burnt down in a fire that broke out on Monday.
According to Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), the fire broke out at early morning 5:00 a.m. and it took over an hour to extinguish.
There were no individuals harmed by the incident, however, the five rooms were burnt beyond use.
Local media Mihaaru reported that they were unable to contact the resort for details about damages caused by the fire.
Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed visited Taj Resort after the incident to inspect the extent of damages.
This is the third case of a fire at a resort in January. A fire in Gili Lankanfushi resort caused irreparable damage to seven overwater villas, while another in Reethi Beach Resort's powerhouse had cut off electricity throughout the resort.
