Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi and Chief of Defence Force Abdulla Shamaal on Wednesday departed on an official visit to India.
According to the Defence Ministry, discussions will be held with the Indian government during this visit to strengthen the existing ties between the two countries.
MInister Mariya and her delegation are set to return to Maldives on January 30.
The visit comes amid Indian media reports that the Indian government plans to restart discussions with Maldives on renewing the Coastal Surveillance Radar Systems (CSRS) project.
CSRS is part of the defence cooperation dialogue agreement made in 2016 with former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
