The Ministry of Housing, on Tuesday, announced that the location of the “Coral Boulevard” project contracted to Chang Hua Construction Pte Ltd, would be shifted to reclaimed suburb Hulhumale’ instead of Rasfannu beach in the capital city of Male’.
According to sources received by local media outlet Mihaaru, the Housing Ministry has requested the Attorney General's Office for a legal opinion regarding the project. The ministry has reportedly decided not to carry out further housing projects in the capital.
The Housing Ministry has not yet issued an official statement regarding the "Coral Boulevard" project and Chang Hua Construction of Singapore has not been available for comment despite attempts to contact them by local media Mihaaru.
Some construction work has commenced and several apartments have also been opened for sale. A miniature model of the planned "Coral Boulevard" has been placed between the head offices of the State Trading Organisation (STO) and Island Aviation Services.
Chang Hua Construction of Singapore has decided to develop a 5-star hotel with 128 rooms, as a Mixed Use Development project at the western artificial beach in Male'.
Being developed as a Mixed Use Development project, "Coral Boulevard" will include four luxury towers with 25 - 28 storeys.
While a total of 549 residential units will be featured in three of these towers, 80 of these units were opened for purchase in December 2018. A five-star star hotel and a family shopping mall will also be developed in one of the four towers.
Coral Boulevard is set to be completed by the end of 2020, as per the agreement between the government and Chang Hua Construction.
The company is also the contractor of the new state-owned, 25-storey Dharumavantha Hospital being developed near Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male. The project was awarded to Chang Hua in July 2017.
