Police probe case of father fleeing with son

Police have begun investigating the case of a man who fled from Kanduhulhudhoo, Gaafu Alifu Atoll, with his three-year-old son on Tuesday.

The Kanduhulhudhoo council has commented that the man was married to a native of the Island, and stated it was only known the man and the child were missing as the mother could not find them in her search. Their family had then reported to the police.

A council member, under terms of remaining anonymous, has issued a statement that the man was spotted leaving with the boy on a speedboat at 17:30. It was not known at the time where the speedboat was going.

The Council has revealed information that the married couple was previously living in Fuvahmulah.

It was estimated that it had only been a week since they had moved to Kanduhulhudhoo.

Furthermore, local media Mihaaru, reported that rumours of disputes between the man and his wife had circulated in the island.

Police have not issued a statement on the case. However, the island council has confirmed that the police are investigating into the matter.

It has since been revealed by Kanduhulhudhoo council, that the man had fled with his son back to his native island of Fuvahmulah.

Further information about reasons for the father fleeing are not known.
