Maldives and UAE sign MoU on renewable energy

The government of Maldives and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in the Field of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency on Tuesday,

Minister of Environment Dr Hussain Rasheed Hassan and the Minister of Climate Change and Environment of the UAE, Dr Thani Al Zeyoudi signed the agreement at a ceremony held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.

The MOU will facilitate Maldives and UAE to exchange efficient practices, policies and frameworks regarding renewable energy solutions. Both countries will also share scientific and technological information.

The foreign ministry stated that they consider the MoU a milestone in bilateral relations between Maldives and UAE and a step towards reaching the sustainable future envisioned by the government. The Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid and Minister of Environment Dr Hussain Rasheed Hassan are currently accompanying President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on an official visit to UAE. The purpose of the visit was to attend the inauguration of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) and Zayed Sustainability Awards Ceremony on January 14.

During the ceremony, President Solih presented the Global High Schools Prize (Europe and Central Asia) to a representative of Goethe, Tajikistan.

The award ceremony, marking the 11th edition of the annual event was part of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2019.
