Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) on Sunday reappointed Suhail Ahmed to his former position as the Managing Director of Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
Suhail, who was also managing director when he resigned from HDC in 2015, had served in various other positions in the corporation during the early development stages of Hulhumale’.
In addition, Suhail who was involved in the planning of the reclaimed suburb, has numerous years of experience in the construction industry. He has served 30 years in the government.
Several claims of corruption were made against HDC during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
HDC had allegedly spent out of the corporation’s budget to fund catering costs for Yameen’s re-election campaign and hired a suspicious number of new workers during the campaign period.
While the Auditor General’s Office is currently carrying out an audit regarding HDC, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is conducting an investigation into the corporation.
