Maldives' top court Wednesday is set to commence the final appeal of former defence minister Mohamed Nazim, serving 11 years in prison for weapons possession.

High Court had backed the lower court verdict after Nazim was convicted on a terrorism charge after a hand gun was found in his bedroom.

The full bench of the Supreme Court will hear Nazim's appeal.

The High Court verdict read that as the weapon was found from a place under the full control of the defendant, the onus was on the defedant to prove that weapon did not belong to him which he was unable to do so.
