Two new deputy ministers appointed

Former film star Waleedha Waleedh and former journalist Ali Shamin were appointed as deputy ministers, on Sunday.

Waleedha, who is currently the President of Jumhooree Party’s Women’s League, was appointed as Deputy Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage. Council Member of Jumhooree Party, Ali Shamin, was appointed as Deputy Minister of Housing and Urban Development.

Although the designations were handed over on Sunday, the President’s Office has yet to make an official announcement about the newly appointed deputy ministers.

Including these newly assigned designations, the state now has 43 positions held by those with a level of power similar to that of a deputy minister. The number of state ministers and others holding similar positions are also at 43 as of December 23.

Additionally, just before the deputy minister positions were consigned, two new state ministers were appointed on the same day.

Deputy ministers earn a total salary of MVR 35,000 per month when their MVR 15,000 allowance is added to their basic salary of MVR 20,500. State ministers also receive an allowance of MVR 15,000 in addition to their basic salary of MVR 32,000. State ministers have a total monthly income of MVR 47,000.
