Maldives seeks to increase Japanese investments

Maldives on Thursday discussed with the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) to increase Japanese investments in the island nation.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Abdulla Shahid met with JETRO's President Yasushi Akahoshi and Vice President Nayoshi Nogushi in Tokyo.

Shahid and Akahoshi discussed increasing Japanese investments in the archipelago, as well as ways to further strengthen trade ties between the two nations.

The foreign minister has so far met with several Japanese diplomats on his visit, including the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Minister of Environment.

Shahid is currently on an official visit to Japan, accompanied by a high level delegation including Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer, Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel, Ambassador of Maldives to Japan Ibrahim Uvais, and officials of the foreign ministry.

He is scheduled to return on December 23.
