President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Sunday, highlighted that in order to pave way for development in Maldivians, eliminating corruption was of the utmost importance.

In an official declaration issued by the President on the occasion of International Anti-Corruption day 2018, he stated the extreme importance of honest and transparent conduct in the management of government institutions.

President Solih proposed the introduction of regulations that will eliminate corruption in the Maldives, stating the importance of the government leaders' and civil servants' integrity to their duty to the Maldivian people.

Furthermore, the declaration advised all government administrations to abide by and aid the existing regulations imposed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Working to eliminate corruption in the country through sincerity and veracity in order to bring an end to the abuse of civilians' property and money, was one of the main electoral pledges made by President Solih.

The President also highlighted the government's intent to recover embezzled funds and reinstate the rights of the people, another one of his campaign pledges.

Calling for the country to strive to fight against corruption on a global scale, the president added that fighting against corruption within the Maldives is a quality that would likely attract future investors to Maldives.

Meanwhile, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has formed and appointed officials for two inquiry commissions tasked with the fulfilment of key electoral pledges concerning the recovery of missing state funds, as well as the true circumstances surrounding two high-profile murders and the abduction of one journalist.
