Commissioner of Prisons at Maldives Correctional Services Ahmed Shihan was dismissed from his post on Thursday.

According to Correctional Services, the decision was made by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Thus far, no new appointments have been made to this post.

President Solih's decision came amid criticism being fired at Shihan for violating the rights of convicts. Many have even called for him to resign from his post.

Shihan was appointed by former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom in April 2016.
