Former Prosecutor General Muhthaz Muhusin was released on Thursday by High Court.
Muhthaz was found guilty of forging an arrest warrant for former President Abdulla Yameen and was sentenced to 17 years of prison on June 9, 2016.
The Criminal Court's sentence was appealed at the High Court. After reviewing, the sentence was overturned and the High Court ordered to release Muhthaz.
Additionally, former chief magistrate of Maamigili Magistrate Court, Ahmed Nihan, who was arrested along with Muhthaz was released as well.
