Ex-pres Yameen's close aide shifts allegiance to Jumhooree Party

Faresmaathodaa MP Hussain Mohamed Latheef, who was known as one of the closest aides of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, joined Jumhooree Party (JP) of the ruling coalition on Wednesday.

In addition to Hussain Mohamed Latheef who was formerly of the now opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), Dhangethi MP Ilham Ahmed also signed to JP.

The two lawmakers presented their documents to join JP to the party's leader Qasim Ibrahim, at a special ceremony held at JP's office on Wednesday afternoon.

Prior to Hussain Mohamed Latheef, former PPM lawmakers Bilehdhoo MP Ahmed Mubeen and Isdhoo MP Gaari Ahmed Rasheed also recently joined JP.

Qasim Ibrahim stated that his party would welcome all newcomers.
