President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has established a committee on releasing political detainees.

The committee was established in efforts to release those who have been criminally charged, out of political motives.

The president has appointed four members to the committee:

- Minister of Home Affairs Sheikh Imran Abdulla

- Commissioner of Police Hamdhoon Rasheed

- Legal Counsel to the President Ahmed Abdulla Afeef

- Attorney General Ibrahim Riffath

The committee was established on the first day of his presidency and was one of his electoral pledges.
