President-Elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will be accommodated in the presidential residence of Muliaage for the five years of his presidential term, while his Vice President Faisal Naseem is to reside in Hilaaleege, according to local media Mihaaru.

Muliaage is currently undergoing major renovations for the arrival of the future president.

During President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s regime, Muliaage was used to hold campaign meetings for Progressive Party of Maldives and for political activities of First Lady Fathmath Ibrahim.

Muliaage was constructed by Sultan Mohammed Shamsudheen 104 years ago. The former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom temporary lived in Muliaage as well until the development of Theemuge in 1994. The former President Mohammed Nasheed also moved into Muliaage halfway during his abridged regime, until his resignation in 2012.

President Yameen has made the decision to leave his current accommodation, Hilaaleege, on Friday morning and move to his personal residence in Henveiru ward of the capital city. Thus the preparations will be made for the arrival of the future Vice President, Faisal Naseem, after the departure of President Yameen.

Hilaaleege was seized by the state under the presidency of Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, and was used to accommodate foreign dignitaries that visited the Maldives. However, under Nasheed’s regime, Hilaaleege was used to accommodate his Vice President, Mohamed Waheed. The former Vice President of the current administration, Mohamed Jameel, was also accommodated in Hilaaleege until he was impeached.
