The administration of President-Elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will consist of 19 ministries, announced his spokesperson Mariya Ahmed Didi on Tuesday.
Speaking at a press conference, Mariya proclaimed that while there are over 700 political posts in the administration of outgoing President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, Solih's government will bring the number down to less than 100, thus slashing political expenditure by 16 percent
According to Mariya, the new ministries to be formed in Solih's administration are:
- Ministry of Higher Education
- Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services
- Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture
- Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure
- Ministry of Housing and Urban Development
- Ministry of Youth and Sports Community Empowerment
- Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation
- Ministry of Arts, Culture and Heritage
- Ministry of Communication, Science and Technology
The new government will also change the names of three ministries:
- Ministry of Defence and National Security, to Ministry of Defence
- Ministry of Finance and Treasury, to Ministry of Finance
- Ministry of Environment and Energy, to Ministry of Environment
Meanwhile, the following ministries will be retain in Solih's government:
- Ministry of Home Affairs
- Ministry of Education
- Ministry of Tourism
- Ministry of Health
- Ministry of Economic Development
- Attorney General's Office
