ELections Commission on Thursday issued funding for all political parties except for ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

EC stated that the money was withheld due to the legal case regarding the party’s leadership filed at the Supreme Court.

Pro-government Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) and opposition coalition partner Jumhooree Party (JP) both received MVR 1.9 million.

All political parties with a registered member base larger than 10,000 is entitled to receive state funding. PPM has the largest member base with 45,865 members, while MDP comes in second with 29,756 members.
