The General Purpose Committee of the parliament decided on Wednesday to put the previous resolution calling for a motion of no confidence against Speaker Abdulla Maseeh, which was filed last year July with 45 signatories, on the parliament agenda.
This decision enables opposition lawmakers to proceed with the motion to impeach Maseeh at any parliament sitting.
The resolution submitted in July 2017 was not placed on the agenda then, since the signatures on the petition included four out of 12 lawmakers who were declared disqualified from parliament by the Elections Commission at the time.
However, the Supreme Court this week overthrew the commission's decision and reinstated all 12 legislators.
