Elections Commission's President Ahmed Shareef on Tuesday retweeted a tweet which accuses incumbent President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom of orchestrating the alleged election rig.

Shereef retweeted a tweet by MP Mohamed Ameeth, in which he accused President Yameen of bringing in the "rings" that the ruling party has alleged, were used to put checkmarks on ballot papers.

Ameeth accused the president of pictures of the rings, and trying to use them as evidence after his attempts at tampering with the results failed. Ameeth also said that the president is attempting to shift the blame of the ruling party's plans to rig the actions and use it as evidence.

Following President Yameen's loss in the elections, he filed a case at the Supreme Court, raising issues and concerns about the election proceedings, and requesting to annul the election results. Shareef was accused of bringing in special "rings" to tamper with the votes.

The EC President has been facing several accusations of having interfered with the election proceeding and results. Members of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives have been protesting regularly, demanding Shareef to answer their concerns and calling for his immediate resignation.
