Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) summoned lawyer and parliamentarian for the constituency of Kendhoo, Ali Hussain, for questioning regarding his criticism of the Supreme Court ruling issued on October 4.

The MP informed local media Mihaaru, that DJA questioned him regarding comments he made during a television programme in which he was critical of the court for nullifying the Election Commission's (EC) withdrawal of its initial decision to expel 12 lawmakers from parliament following the anti-defection ruling of July 2017.

The Kendhoo MP has reasoned that since EC, which initially filed the case to the Supreme Court, has reverted it's decision, the court should not be able to claim sole authority over investigation of the case.

The Supreme Court held hearings for four of the listed MPs during the past week. The members in question, Thulusdhoo MP Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim, Villingili MP Saud Hussain, Dhidhdhoo MP Abdul Latheef Mohamed and Maduvvari MP Mohamed Ameeth, were all reinstated to parliament. Hearings for the remaining eight lawmakers are yet to be held.
