The acting Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of US Department of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, Alice Wells, arrived in Maldives on Tuesday.
During her visit, she met with some of the 12 opposition legislators who were declared unseated from parliament, by the Elections Commission last year for floor-crossing.
Four of these lawmakers were reinstated by the Supreme Court on Monday.
Wells is set to meet with President-Elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, government officials and various institutions.
Prior to Well's arrival, the USA's Secretary of State Mike Pompee visited Maldives to congratulate Solih on his victory in the Presidential Election held on September 23.
