President-Elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Sunday, officially met Commissioner of Police Hamdhoon Rasheed.

The former head of the Police Intelligence Department, Mohamed Hameed and the former Police Commissioner and current lawmaker for the constituency of Kinbidhoo, Abdulla Riyaz also participated in the meeting held at the National Police Headquarters in capital Male.

No official statements regarding the meeting have been released as of yet.

Solih has criticized incumbent President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom for dismissing Abdulla Nawaz, who was the acting Police Commissioner at the time of the election, and reappointing him as the deputy minister at the Ministry of Environment and Energy.

The opposition has stated that this sudden reappointment during the transition period is an attempt by the incumbent president to influence Maldives Police Service to fulfil his political wishes.

Nawaz was appointed Acting Police Commissioner after the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling of February 1 to release nine high profile political prisoners.

President-Elect Solih has formally met several other head government officials following his electoral victory over the incumbent president Yameen.
