Former Vice President Ahmed Adheeb's lawyer Moosa Siraj was released from police custody on Thursday.
Siraj was arrested last week Thursday for allegedly spreading false information about President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom on behalf of the jailed former VP. Citing Adheeb, the lawyer had accused the president of committing various criminal offences.
The Criminal Court remanded him for six days last Friday.
He was released during his remand hearing this Thursday, when the police stated that it was no longer necessary to keep him detained.
The police had searched Siraj's residence after his arrest, to find evidence regarding the lawyer's claims of President Yameen’s alleged involvement in crimes. The police had confiscated a hard drive, pen drive and a five-page document during the raid.
