The arrested eighteen individuals from Kolamaafushi, Gaaf Alif under terrorism charges after they vandalized a campaign office of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) have been released on Tuesday.
The men, who were supporters of opposition party Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), were arrested following a clash with PPM supporters on August 30.
According to their team of lawyers, they were released after a letter was submitted to the Police.
The release comes earlier than the men's initial remand of 15 days.
MDP has been raising concerns over the matter, claiming it unjust that only opposition supporters were arrested for a crime committed by both the parties and present the incident as evidence that the police are politically influenced.
