Maldivian Democratic Party's (MDP) Chairperson Hassan Latheef and Secretary General Anas Abdul Sattar have been summoned to the police due to a report based on President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's alleged illegal oil trade.

The main opposition MDP had released a report based on illegal oil trade abroad, in which President Yameen is accused of having connections with a company involved in the trade.

The party had presented the case to the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) for investigation as well.

Hassan Latheef was sent two chits summoning him to the police, first from capital Male and the second while he was in Fuvahmulah for the upcoming Presidential Election.

In response, President Yameen had filed a case at the Civil Court for defamation. He also filed a case at the High Court, claiming that his right to candidacy was violated by MDP. However, the case was rejected by the High Court.
