Ibu pledges to link Kooddoo, Villingili by bridge

Opposition coalition's presidential candidate and Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s parliamentary group leader Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu) has pledged, among multiple vowes to Gaafu Alif Atoll, to link the islands of Villingili and Koodoo by a bridge.

Speaking to the people of Villingili on a campaign trip, Solih stated that the people must envision connecting islands to one another, and added that the development of the bridge will not be of high cost.

Hinnavaru MP Solih also criticised the current government over its expenditure on the mega infrastructural project, the Sinamale Bridge which links capital Male City and airport island Hulhule. The opposition coalition candidate noted that the estimated value of the project was at USD78 million and highlighted that the current administration, however, haf spent over USD300 million on the project.

Solih further pledged to develop an international airport at Gaafu Alif Atoll, to make international travel more convenient to people within the atoll.

The opposition coalition candidate added that a canning factory will also be established in the atoll in an administration of the opposition, to process the products of local fishermen in Gaafu Alif Atoll.

Solih further pledged to provide social housing and offer social housing loans to the people of Villingili island.

Noting the warm welcome he received from the people of Gaafu Alifu, Solih stated that the opposition clearly possesses the support of the majority from the islands of Gaafu Alif and Gaafu Dhaal atolls.
