Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) led by the Parliament Member for Naifaru constituency in Lhaviyani Atoll, Ahmed Shiyam (Sun Siyam), transferred temporary leadership to deputy leader Ali Mauroof on Wednesday.

MDA’s decision to transfer temporary leadership to Mauroof, parliament member for Kendhikulhudhoo constituency in Noonu Atoll, came with the unanimous agreement between the council members regarding the resolution brought forward by Shiyam in the council meeting held on Wednesday.

Council member and spokesperson for MDA Ali Sinaan attributed Siyam's departure from a party leadership role to pressing business commitments overseas.

Meanwhile, as negotiations are ongoing to renew the alliance made between the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives and MDA, rumours of disagreements between the two parties have recently surfaced.

Currently, MDA has five representatives in the parliament.

Sinaan also revealed that MDA is yet to receive an official invitation to join either political alliance, and that a council meeting to determine the party's final stance would be scheduled in the near future.
