Maldives Broadcasting Commission fined local news channel Raajje TV by MVR 2 million on Wednesday.

According to a commission member, the channel was fined due to a program that had been broadcast. However, the commission member did not provide any details regarding the program.

In the past, Raajje TV has previously been fined similarly large sums including a fine of MVR 250,0000 and MVR 1 million, over defamation charges.

After each fine, the channel opens up a fund under the name "RaajjeTV Aburufulhu Fund" for raising and collecting money which is then used to pay off these fines.
