Guraidhoo MP Ibrahim Riza of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has been appointed as the vice president of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

According to JSC, Riza's appointment was finalised on Sunday. As per the Judicial Service Commission Act, the commission's president and vice president are appointed by the JSC members.

JSC's vice president post was left vacant after the former deputy chief, Mohamed Faisal, was appointed as a judge at the High Court. Faisal had served at the commission as a representative of the president.

Following Faisal's transfer to the High Court, lawyer Mohamed "Reynis" Saleem was appointed as the president's representative to the commission. Saleem had served in the same post during the regime of former President Mohamed Waheed.
