Select schools in Maldives have adopted the newly introduced digitized form of teaching and learning using tablets.

Despite the announcement by the Ministry of Education for every school to switch to using tablets from the second academic term of this year, all the schools have not yet shifted to everyday use of tablets in classrooms. However, schools that have received the tablets have started to carry out lessons with the use of this digital mean.

Centre for Higher Secondary School (CHSE) began using the tablets this week. The school's principal, Aishath Safoora, stated that she has observed a difference from the students with this switch to digitized learning, sharing that the tablet is being used to carry out lessons of all the subjects.

"Teachers have begun to carry out lesson of Business and Chemistry. We have observed more enthusiasm among students owing to the introduction of the tablets," said Safoora.

Furthermore, she stated that the teachers are also equally enthusiastic about this recent switch, and that this camaraderie will hopefully lead to better results from students.

Students studying in the 10th grade at Kalaafaanu School have also subscribed to the usage of tablets starting Wednesday.

Education Ministry has now assigned tablets to the 8,459 teachers who are teaching all grades from 1-12. The ministry has also introduced programs to make its interface more interactive and to simplify communication between parents and teachers using these tablets.

The ministry appointed MAXCOM company the task of allocating the tablets to all schools. More than 70,000 tablets have been imported to Maldives during this process. The government has a designated budget of MVR 154 million for the school digitization program.
