Elections Commission has decided to place total 452 ballot boxes for the Presidential Election slated for coming September 23.

In a notice released late Sunday, the EC stated that 430 ballot boxes will be placed across inhabited islands, while boxes will also be placed at seven resorts, six industrial islands and four other countries.

In the last election held in 2013, the EC had placed total 459 ballot boxes, including at 56 resorts.

However the commission had decided to drastically reduce the number of boxes allocated for resorts to only seven this year: Bandos Maldives, Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, Kuramathi Island Resort, Kuredu Island Resort and Spa, Paradise Island Resort and Spa, Sun Island Resort and Spa, and The Sun Siyam Iru Fushi.

Similar to the previous election, ballot boxes outside of Maldives will be placed at New Delhi and Trivandrum in India, Colombo in Sri Lanka, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, Singapore, and London in the United Kingdom. Out of these, two boxes are to be placed in Colombo.

The EC had previously announced that a ballot box would also be placed at Bangalore, India but had later decided against it.
