President Abdulla Yameen appointed Ahmed Shafeeq as the Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Economic Development on Thursday.
The announcement was made via the official website of the President's Office.
Shafeeq previously served at the post of State Minister for the Ministry of Home Affairs during Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s government.
He has been actively participating in the presidential campaign to re-elect President Yameen, after signing on as a member of the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
In addition to Shafeeq, there are currently four other deputy ministers at the Ministry of Economic Development.
