Jumhooree Party founder Qasim Ibrahim's wife Aishath 'Aisha' Nahula has declared that she has no intentions of contesting as running mate from the opposition coalition, in the upcoming elections alongside presidential candidate Ibrahim "Ibu" Mohamed Solih from Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

There were several rumours recently claiming that Aisha would be the running mate for the joint opposition, with some even expressing their support for her. The rumours were believed to have started after it was revealed that the running mate for the joint opposition coalition would be from Jumhooree Party.

These speculations were said to have caused some friction with Adhaalath Party, who had declared that it would be "difficult" for them to accept a female running mate.

In a statement released by Aisha, she stated that she did not have any interest in contesting as the running mate. She added that she would remain in support of the reformation work that JP and the opposition coalition parties plan to undertake.

Aisha only recently entered the political field, and has secured a seat on the JP Council for the party's congress.

A running mate will be declared by JP after a secret voting session on Friday.
