Presidential candidate from the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu) is to visit Addu Atoll and Fuvahmulah to start off his presidential campaign on Friday.

Although Ibu had met with some people from capital Male' and its reclaimed suburb Hulhumale, this trip to the southernmost atolls will mark the official beginning of his campaign.

According to MDP, Ibu will meet the campaigners in Addu after arriving on Friday evening, and on Saturday will conduct door-to-door campaigns to meet citizens.

Ibu will launch the door-to-door campaign from Maradhoo-Feydhoo and visit all the wards of Addu.

After Addu, he will visit the single-island atoll of Fuvahmulah.

Ibu was pronounced as MDP's candidate for the joint opposition, after the Elections Commission stated that MDP's leader and former President Mohamed Nasheed will not be allowed to run for presidency due to his ongoing 13-year jail sentence.

Jumhooree Party (JP) is tasked with selecting a running mate for the opposition coalition, who will contest in the Presidential Election with Ibu. After JP declares a running mate during its congress this Friday, joint campaign trips with the coalition will commence.
