Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has pledged to establish junior colleges in every atoll aiming to extend higher secondary education to all islands across the Maldives.

The MDP manifesto stated that developing the education sector of the Maldives is among the key pledges of the party. MDP stated that the junior colleges will offer programmes for students with technical, vocational and educational interests.

MDP pledged to increase the pay and allowances of teachers as a means of building motivation towards their job, adding that the opposition will ensure comfort in teaching environments of the school and boost professional development among teachers.

The manifesto also stated that seven training centres will be established across regions in Maldives to give professional training to employees in the tourism sector.

MDP further pledged to establish loan schemes for art students and commence school bus transportation in populous islands for the convenience of working parents.

MDP's manifesto for the upcoming presidential elections was announced during the party congress held at Alif Alif Atoll's Ukulhas last week.
