The European Union is to hold top level discussions with the Maldives within this week.

According to a statement released by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maldives will take part in a meeting in Brussels, Belgium on June 28.

Foreign Minister Dr. Mohamed Asim, Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Mohamed Shainee, Attorney General Azima Shukoor, and the Maldivian ambassador to the EU Ahmed Shiaan will be representing Maldives at the sit-down.

The Maldivian delegation is to meet with several bodies of EU, including the European Parliament and European External Action Service. Foreign ministry further stated that discussions will be held to figure out ways to improve relations with EU.

EU has been expressing concerns over the political situation in Maldives following the alleged coup in early February. Maldives and EU have been holding top level discussions since 2015.
