Former Member of Parliament representing Haa Alif Kelaa, Dr.Abdulla Mausoom, announced he is running for Jumhooree Party's vice president, along with five other competitors for the four vice chair person positions.
JP will hold the party's congress at Paradise Island Resort over the coming weekend. Party leadership will be elected including the post of the party leader during the congress.
So far, former Maldivian Democratic Party's chairperson Ali Waheed, who recently joined the party is the only candidate running for party president.
Dr. Mausoon is the only candidate for vice president.
Although no candidate has announced plans to run for the post of party leader, it is belived that a decision will be made on choosing JP's candidate during the congress itself.
Currently, the title of party leader is held by JP founder Qasim Ibrahim.
During a press gathing in JP office on Wednesday, the party's secretary general Ahmed Sameer declared that no candidate would be running for party leader as there can be none equivalant to Qasim, and that the same respect and love cannot be dedicated to another candidate.
He noted that a final descison would be made on the matter during the congress.
