The Elections Commission (EC) has revealed that the commission will look into all complaints lodged by political parties regarding the voters’ registry for the Presidential Election 2018 recieved thus far.

The maain opposition, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), had earlier voiced complaints to the commission over faults in the voters’ registry.

Jumhoory Party (JP) has also expressed complaints on the voters’ registry publicised by EC.

EC member Ahmed Akram stated that during the discussion with MDP, the main opposition party had raised concerns regarding the duration for the submission of complaints.

However, the EC member, proclaimed that the duration of 10 days for complaint submission was the maximum time period granted to the public as per the Constitution.

Akram further added that MDP had expressed concern over the commission's decision to conceal the identity cards of the voters on the registry. Akram responded to the opposition stating that the presidential elections' voters' list was publicized as with all previous elections.

There are 263,000 eligible voters in the voters registry publicised by EC last week Sunday for the upcoming election slated for September 24. The deadline for members of the public to submit any complaints regarding the list has been announced to be the 20th of June. Concerned citizens may submit complaints to the EC bureau in capital Male, or to their respective island councils.
