A tremor was reported in some islands of Laamu Atoll on Wednesday, Maldives Meteorological Centre has said.
The meteorological centre said that Gan, Kadhdhoo, Fonadhoo and Maandhoo in the atoll reported feeling the tremor around 11.35 a.m.
"From what we know so far, it did not appear to have been an earthquake. But we're looking more into it," said an official from MET.
A mild tremor was also reported in Lhaviyani Atoll last month.
Earlier on Wednesday morning. an earthquake of 5.8 magnitude rocked Indonesia off the western coast of Sumatra. However, there have not been any warnings of a possible tsunami.
