The local youth of Shaviyani Atoll's Lhaimagu has planted corals in the island’s reef for rehabilitation after the affects of Cyclone Ockhi in late 2017.

The youth community of Lhaigamu revealed that they were planting corals in a 50 feet by 30 feet area in the North East region of the reef.

According to Lhaigamu locals, the youth were rehabilitating the reefs in an effort to create a rich coral reef system before introducing tourism to the island.

In the Maldives, the northern and central atolls endured the worst affects of Cyclone Ockhi, which started out as a depression off the coast of Sri Lanka, and later developed into a cyclone last December.
