The Elections Commission declared on Thursday that all the political parties have assured their cooperation for the Presidential Elections to be held in September.
After the formation of the national committee, which includes representatives from the parties and government, its first meeting was held last Monday.
According to EC member Ahmed Akram, the proceedings of the committee were discussed during the sit-down. He noted that they had decided that the committee would hold biweekly meetings until the election is announced in July, and weekly meetings afterwards.
Akram highlighted that all the political parties have given assurance that they will cooperate throughout the elections.
The electoral body of the Maldives has been heavily criticized by the opposition, which claims that the EC is under the government's influence. However, the commission maintains that it is not inclined towards any particular entity, and that the presidential elections will be free and fair.
