The Ramadan bonus funds for employees were stolen from the council office of Gaafu Alif Atoll's Kolamaafushi Council Office, by burglars who broke into the office on Sunday night.
According to a council member, MVR 122,000 allocated as Ramadan bonus for staff was in the safe. He added that they discovered that the funds were missing when the councillors came into work Monday.
"Apart from the bonus money, there were other funds in the safe, so it is hard to say how much was taken. But it will not be more than MVR 200,000," said the council member.
He noted that, in addition to the funds in the safe, the mosque funds were stolen as well.
The burglars had broken a window of the office to sneak inside.
