The Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure has appealed to the public not to park on the roads that are being developed to make way for the Male-Hulhumale Bridge, on the capital’s outermost road.

The housing ministry’s announcement Sunday stated that parking would not be allowed from East Boduthakurufaanu Magu to its South; this is the part of the road that extends from the sports tracks, to the Hulhumale ferry terminal in Male.

The housing ministry had earlier revealed plans to widen parts the outermost road close to the bridge by 16-metres, with four lanes for traffic flow, in order to avoid congestion in the area. Most of these changes are being brought to the Henveiru ward of Male.

While the roads are being widened to make way for the convenience of the vehicles travelling back and forth from Male to Hulhumale, the ministry also stated that a two-metre pavement would be developed along the sides of the road for pedestrians. The housing ministry would also initiate a project to plant trees along the pavements, the announcement read.

Housing Minister Dr Mohamed Muizzu had said that the concrete works at the Male-end of the landmark bridge would reach and connect with the Hulhule-end by July 9.
