The Smoking Cessation Clinic saw nine patients in its first week, the state-run Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) revealed Friday.

The hospital’s spokesperson revealed that, while it has officially treated nine patients so far, there are approximately 52 people on the waitlist seeking treatment.

The clinic, located inside IGMH, aims to help smokers overcome the habit, as well as raise awareness about the harmful effects of smoking.

It offers counselling and nicotine replacement therapy for those looking to quit the habit, and also offer treatments for other health problems caused by smoking.

The clinic is open every day between 1pm – 3pm, except Fridays and counselling is offered three days a week, in accordance to a schedule.
