Lawyers appeal ex-pres Maumoon, MP Faris, Nadheem's remand

Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom, his son MP Faris Maumoon and son-in-law Mohamed Nadheem’s legal team has appealed their remand at the Criminal Court.

Last month, before the state of emergency was lifted, the Criminal Court had remanded all the political detainees who were arrested during the time, until the end of their trials.

The family lawyers had filed Maumoon and MP Faris’ appeal Thursday, while Yumna Maumoon’s husband Nadheem’s remand was appealed Sunday.

It is not knows whether the court accepted the appeals yet.

The former president, his lawmaker son and son-in-law were all charged with terrorism and conspiring to overthrow Maumoon’s half-brother incumbent President Abdullah Yameen. Several prominent politicians who were arrested during the state of emergency, including Chief Justice Abdullah Saeed and Supreme Court Justice Ali Hameed, who were also charged with terrorism.
